We've reserved a block of rooms at the Westin Downtown Austin, for a discounted rate of $189 (pre tax) per night, for Thur 8/10 thru Sun 8/13. They've also extended the discounted rate for us from Tue 8/8 to Tue 8/15, so you can reserve a longer stay if you'd like.

If you're having any trouble booking a longer stay than Thur-Sun, please let us know and we'll ask the hotel to open up more rooms for us for those extended days.
You certainly don't need to stay at the Westin with us; please stay wherever you are comfortable. We've had good luck with Airbnb in Austin and there are other hotels within walking distance of the Westin. The Hampton Inn & Suites and Hyatt Place are nearby and have slightly less expensive rates around $160-$170.
FLIGHTS
We recommend booking your flight as soon as you can and flying into Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) which is only a short taxi/Fasten ride away from the Westin.
If you’re looking for a bargain, Dallas-Fort Worth is a much larger airport and is more open to flying gamesmanship. However, it is a ~3 hour drive away from Austin so be sure to take that commute into any kind of deal you may be considering.
weather
For example, here’s the aggregate and daily weather reports for August 2016. Also, here’s NOAA’s UV index data for Dallas in 2015 which indicates probable indexes in the 8-10 range. The UV index is an indicator of how fast you will burn in direct sunlight and also how much direct sunlight will affect your perception of the heat.
If you are not a fan of the heat, stick to the shade for a much cooler experience. Also, we recommend Australian Gold sunblock. It’s effective and has a minimum of the classic “sunscreen ickiness” feeling.
GETTING AROUND
The Westin is located in the heart of downtown Austin, so you'll be able to walk to a variety of restaurants, bars, and sights like Zilker Park.
For transportation to the airport, our wedding venue Contigo, and any other spot downtown that you'd like to check out, we recommend the use of a taxi or ride-sharing service like Lyft or Fasten.
In general, you won't need to rent a car for the stay, unless that makes you the most comfortable.
what to pack
Barring the actual wedding, pack for summer weather. Light fabrics, shorts, swimwear (for the pool party, if you'd like to swim) and your usual UV protections. Bring comfortable shoes, since Austin has a very walkable downtown.
